The yearly rate of U.S. inflation — measured by the consumer price index — climbed to 6.8% as of November to mark the sharpest increase in prices in 39 years. A lot has changed in the past 40 years, of course, and Wall Street DJIA economists say comparing the two episodes of high inflation is like night and day.
